Good day, Elementians!
Well, only 5 more days untill Halloween Horror Nights begins. For those of you not in the know, HHN is the annual Halloween event at Universal Studios Orlando. (It's at the Hollywood one too, but meh)
Since I now live within 30 minutes of Universal, I'm able to go multiple times... and this year is looking to be the best yet.
This year's icon is Bloody Mary. Universal's put their own twist on the legend, giving her a completely original backstory.
Dr. Mary Agana was a psychologist who utilized "Immersive Exposure Therapy" in an attempt to cure extreme phobias. For example, a woman who was afraid of myths such as the Headless Horseman was locked in a room with a severed head, which drove her insane. Eventually one of the patients died, and she started to realize something... she liked to watch them die. Their deaths helped her come to terms with her own fear of death. So, watching through her two-way mirror, she would make them experience their worst fears. She would only "end their suffering" when they said the "safe word"... Bloody Mary. Eventually a Private Eye took notice and decided to investigate, scheduling an appointment. However, since he had lied about having a phobia, he broke free and pulled her through the mirror, killing her... and turning her into Bloody Mary.
This year's theme is mostly related to myths, legends, and fairy tales. There's Path of the Wicked, a twisted land of Oz in which the Wicked witch has done away with Dorothy and taken over. There's Asylum in Wonderland, a bizarre and nightmarish journey through the looking glass, from which there is no escape. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
